Why You Should Never Water Your Orchids at Night

The time of day you water your orchids matters significantly for their health. While many orchid owners focus on how much water to give, when you water is equally important.

Morning Watering

Watering orchids in the morning provides crucial benefits:

  • Allows moisture to evaporate during daylight hours
  • Prevents fungal infections and root rot
  • Reduces risk of crown rot from water collecting in leaf bases
  • Mimics natural rainforest conditions orchids prefer

Proper Watering For Best Result:

  1. Soak the pot in water for a few minutes, then drain completely
  2. Never let orchids stand in water
  3. Use ventilated pots with drainage holes
  4. Place pots over gravel trays to increase humidity while preventing wet roots
  5. Water approximately once weekly, but only when potting medium feels dry

By simply shifting your watering routine to morning hours, you can significantly improve your orchid’s health and longevity. This small change often makes the difference between struggling plants and thriving ones.
